What’s been happening?
Over the course of the last few weeks, THE CHURCH, made up of hundreds of local church expressions in the greater Austin area, rose up to be a beacon of light and hope to our community. Life Church mobilized over 200 volunteers to serve in various ways to bless and serve our neighbors affected by the floods.
What’s next?
Recently, I attended a high-level overview and coordination meeting concerning flood response. What I learned is that we are now entering a different phase of response. The need for unskilled volunteer work is coming to an end, and we are moving from the relief phase of this disaster to a recovery and rebuild phase. With that said there are still some sites that are being managed by ADRN that require general labor.
Here’s how you can help as we move into the new recovery/rebuild phase:
There are 50 Families with Leander addresses affected by the floods asking for Christians to walk alongside them. We need people with loving and kind hearts to encourage, offer hope, and pray with those whose lives been turned upside down by the floods. There are no financial obligations. You can do this alone, or better yet do it as a group outreach effort in a group that you are a part of. More information on how to become a Shepherd, and a very quick and simple online training is available here.
We would love for you to join our Life Church Community Response Team that serves in both times of disaster and also helps those in need through basic service projects throughout the year. You don’t have to serve at every project, but any amount of time you can give is appreciated. There is a position for everyone! You can talk with residents, make food, participate in skilled or unskilled labor, provide resources, and more. Register Here. (***If you’ve been part of the Local Service Team, we would like for you to re-register under this team which will replace the Local Service Team***).
Thank you for showing up to love others and glorify God through your acts of service! Matthew 5:16: “…Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
